To properly measure for your collar, use a tape measure or piece of string and wrap around the neck about 1/4 of the way up from the shoulders. Add one inch to the measurement and that will be a snug fit, without being too tight. Add 1.5 to the measurement for a looser fit.
Example: my neck is 13.5 inches and the collar in this photo is 14.5 inches.
